A Two Step PPD skin test (tuberculosis) must be processed to volunteer with the Agency. Please follow the guidelines listed below to complete this process.
- PPD Calendar/monthly schedule (PPD Schedule)
- Two step PPD process:
All volunteers must have a 2 step PPD done. The Volunteer Coordinator of the Community Relations department may assist the Volunteer in scheduling the first PPD by notifying the nurse at the Main Facility or Eberhardt of the time the volunteer will arrive to have their PDD planted. The Volunteer Coordinator will use the established PPD calendar times for reference when setting up the PPD appointment that is found on the Volunteer page on the Agency website.
The first step must be done prior to their first day of volunteering. If the first step PPD is negative they may begin volunteering but must return within a specified time frame for a second PPD. If they have documented evidence of a negative PPD within the past 12 months, only one PPD is required. When the first PPD is planted, the volunteer is given a date and time to return within the next 48 to 72 hours to have it read at either the clinic at the Main Facility or Eberhardt, unless other arrangements have been made. At that time, if the PPD reading is negative, the volunteer is given a scheduled date and time for the second PPD to be planted. If the volunteer fails to show up, the manager of that individual is made aware, by the nurse, and the necessary arrangements are made.
Once there have been 2 negative PPD’s completed, they will not be required to receive an annual PPD unless they have known exposure to tuberculosis or show symptoms of the disease. If a PPD reading is positive, the person cannot start volunteering in their assigned program until they have been first evaluated by a Health Care provider.
