North Star Coffee serves local coffee from Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters and provides employment opportunities for people with disabilities or other challenges.

Ontario ARC’s newest social enterprise, North Star Coffee, opens June 26, 2017  at 1880 Rochester Road in Canandaigua. North Star Coffee is a full-service coffee bar and café located in a brand new building on Route 332, also home to Flowers by Stella, Keller Williams Realty, and Scoops II Ice Cream.

North Star Coffee serves handcrafted beverages made with local coffee provided by Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters, and treats baked fresh daily by Sully’s Café, also a division of Ontario ARC. Coffee drinks are made to order or can be purchased as fresh roasted whole beans by the pound. Customers can also enjoy their coffee with the convenience of curbside pickup through GrubHub.com.

North Star Coffee has ten staff which includes people supported by Ontario ARC. Employment opportunities encourage individual growth, including learning the skills and tasks to professionally operate the shop and provide a warm, welcoming customer service experience.

“We envision North Star Coffee as a highly visible part of the Canandaigua community. We are thrilled to work with our friends at Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters to deliver great beverages while also providing wonderful career opportunities for people supported by Ontario ARC. We hope customers will find that North Star Coffee is a comfortable gathering place,” said Ann Scheetz, Executive Director at Ontario ARC.

The brand new building features 25 foot high panoramic windows and an open floor plan with indoor greenhouse shared with Flowers by Stella. Flowers by Stella, a local business established in 1975, is owned by Sarah Genecco, a member of the Ontario ARC Community Advisory Board. North Star also includes amenities such as free wi-fi.

“The name North Star Coffee was chosen because Ontario ARC associates its mission with the qualities of the North Star as a universal beacon to find your place in the world,” says Michael Bradley, Business Plan Developer at Ontario ARC. “The logo features a bear which is prominently featured in Native American folklore surrounding the North Star and is an important part of Finger Lakes culture and heritage,” said Bradley.

North Star Coffee, 1880 Rochester Road, Canandaigua, is open Monday through Friday, 7AM to 6PM, and Saturday 8AM to 2PM (closed Sunday). To learn more about North Star Coffee, visit northstarcoffee.org.
