Spring at the Greenhouse

Every year, the Creative Expressions Horticulture program at Ontario ARC partners with Sonnenberg Gardens to grow approximately 3,000 coleus for the 50-acre estate.

In early March, Sonnenberg drops off small coleus plugs and our program transplants them into larger containers. This is a large endeavor yet fantastic experience for our participants!

We have to be ever so careful with the small delicate babies. We provide them with the perfect temperature, light and water throughout the next couple months. It’s fascinating to watch them grow from such small plants to large beautiful eye catching beauties.

In late May, Sonnenberg staff picks up the many trays of coleus and transplants them to the ground in their “French Garden.”  This is a wonderful example of being one with your community!
